The Best Time of Year for Camping in Ibiza

Ibiza’s camping season is short and sharply defined: the campsites open between April and May and close by late October (Cala Bassa runs 1 April–30 September; La Playa runs to 31 October). Within that window, the island changes character almost month by month. Here is the honest calendar, built for people who sleep under canvas — because the difference between 28 °C and 34 °C inside a tent is the difference between a holiday and an endurance event.

The two windows we’d actually book

Late May to mid-June. The sea has hit 19–23 °C, the days are long and golden, nights are cool enough to actually sleep, and the island is busy enough to feel alive but not crushed. Prices are lower than July–August, ferries have space, and the markets and beach bars are all open. This is the classic camping window.

September, and early October if you can. Everything August has — the warmest sea of the year, the best sunsets — minus half the crowds and a third of the price. Nights cool down enough for real sleep. The only risk is the occasional early-autumn storm; bring a rain layer and check forecasts.

The months to think twice about

• July–August: do it only if school holidays demand it, and then book early, choose the shadiest pitch type you can find, and seriously consider the A/C bungalows (Cala Nova, Es Caná, La Playa) or the cabin rooms at Parco Ibiza. Camping in a tent at 31 °C is a young person’s game — and even they book the pool campsite (Es Caná) for it.
• November–March: the camping season simply doesn’t exist. All five campsites close; the island turns inward (which is wonderful — but for hotels and fincas, not for this website’s purposes).

Season-specific events worth timing a trip around

• April–October: Punta Arabí hippy market, Es Canar (Wednesdays).
• February–November: Las Dalias market, San Carlos (Saturdays; summer night markets Jun–Sep).
• June–September: Benirràs sunset drums (Sundays, and most summer evenings).
• October: the wine harvest around Sant Mateu, and the first cool evenings — restaurant season is at its best.
• May & September: medieval fair in Ibiza Town (May) and the quieter shoulder-season vibe across the island.

And the logistical truth about seasons

• Campsites open in waves: Cala Bassa first (1 April), La Playa mid-April to May, the east-coast sites in May. Check our stay profiles for each one’s window before booking flights.
• Ferry and pitch demand: July–August pitches sell out weeks ahead, and the summer campervan entry rule (campsite booking required, 1 June–30 September) makes booking first a requirement, not advice.
• Prices: shoulder season pitches and bungalows are meaningfully cheaper; car hire too. September is the best value-for-money month of the entire year.
• Tourist tax: the Balearic eco-tax applies to campsites at the lowest bracket (€1/person/night base, higher in peak summer, under-16s exempt) — a small but real saving of camping over hotels.

The short version: if you can choose your dates, choose late May–June or September–October. The island rewards you with the same pine shade and turquoise water — minus the parts of Ibiza you came to escape.
